Overview

This course is designed specifically for individuals in managerial, supervisory, or HR roles, as well as other decision-makers in the state of New York. It covers common misconceptions about sexual harassment and provides guidance on handling harassment situations.

Participants will also learn about pertinent federal laws on job discrimination and explain how to establish a company anti-discrimination policy. This course aims to prepare managers and employers for the responsibilities associated with preventing discrimination and harassment in the workplace.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to:
•    List and explain the six federal laws enforced by the EEOC which prohibit job discrimination and describe the procedures involved in filing an official complaint with the EEOC
•    Identify and distinguish between the two different types of sexual harassment that may be present within the workplace and describe what constitutes sexual harassment behavior
•    Recognize discriminatory behavior within the workplace and discuss the laws regulating sexual harassment and workplace discrimination
•    Explain the company's policy on discrimination and harassment, describe the procedures for filing a complaint within the workplace, and test a company's sexual harassment policy and procedures
•    Analyze the manager's role in detecting, dismantling, and preventing discrimination and harassment within the workplace, and summarize the process of a sexual harassment investigation and each person's professional role in the investigation
•    Explain the cost of sexual harassment to individuals, teams, and organizations and relate to reasons why many people do not report sexual harassment
•    Predict what steps to take in order to decrease the risk of sexual harassment and list the steps to take if harassment becomes an issue in the workplace
•    Support the ethical, professional, and legal responsibilities of managers, supervisors, or leads in stopping and responding to sexual harassment, and modify the skills and tools needed in managerial positions to intervene appropriately and lawfully to any charges of potential sexual harassment
•    Identify types of employment discrimination
•    Discuss discrimination based on disabilities
•    Create an effective open-door policy
•    Recognize signs of bullying and how to prevent it
•    Understand the laws against discrimination and the rights of employees
•    Identify the internal and external complaint process available to employees
•    Promote prevention practices through continuous staff training
•    Recognize signs of harassment and retaliation

Target Audience

New York State Law requires that employers of one or more employees must conduct sexual harassment prevention training for all employees each year.

This course is for managers, leaders, supervisors, employers, HR representatives or anyone with decision-making responsibilities.
